Nicaela Cabuhat

About

I'm Nicaela, a software engineer from the Philippines. I spend much of my working day designing and building applications. Outside work, my interests are rather less orderly.

I enjoy reading, watching films, and cooking. I'm particularly fond of films that leave me thinking about them afterward, although I'm perfectly happy watching something light when the mood strikes. I also watch a fair number of cooking shows and like trying to recreate what I've seen. It's one thing to watch someone prepare a beautiful dish on television. It's another to discover whether you can make it yourself.

I enjoy cycling, especially when I need to clear my head. I've also spent time dragon boat racing, which I enjoyed for the paddling, the company, and being out on the water.

Then there's Samwise.

He's my Maltese, white with brown patches, and he follows me around the house so closely that I've learned to check where I'm stepping. He is playful, occasionally affectionate, and frequently grumpy. He has particular objections to delivery people, children playing outside, and anyone who speaks above what he considers a reasonable volume. His objections are usually delivered at full volume.

He also gets the zoomies when he's wet or sleepy. I haven't found a sensible explanation for either.

Most evenings after work, I change into my running clothes, complete with headband and running shoes, and take Samwise out in his stroller. We usually just walk, never run, actually. It's become one of my favorite parts of the day, spending time outside with him after hours at my desk.

I care a great deal about animals, including the ones who aren't lucky enough to have a home. For some time, I've wanted to build a platform that helps stray animals find people willing to adopt and care for them. I'd also like it to provide jobs for people who need work. It's something I hope to make real one day.

This website is partly a record of my work, but I don't intend to keep it entirely professional. I'd like a place for things I've read, films I've enjoyed, thoughts I've written down, and the occasional photograph.

There will almost certainly be more photographs of Samwise than anything else.
